Holiday Decor with Annalysed Interiors

The holidays are already here (is it just me or did it come really quickly?) but there is still time to deck the halls. Whether you are decorating a Christmas tree or simply refreshing a room, here are a few tips and tricks that will have you spreading cheer throughout the holidays.

Dressing Your Tree

Step 1: Christmas Theme

Before you decide to go shopping, you need to gather ideas or inspiration. Pinterest really helps with this. Narrow down your choices to two favourites and choose a colour scheme with two or three colours, then you can begin shopping.

Step 2: Order

Choose ornaments of varying sizes: small, medium and large. An odd assortment of large ornaments always works best. Add your Christmas lights to the tree first (if your tree is not pre-lit), and the ribbon second. This helps to achieve a designer look.

Organising your ornaments on the floor before adding them to the tree helps give you an idea of what you have on hand, what you need to purchase, and what you will need to make.

Step 3: Positioning of Ornaments
Place your ornaments in a zigzag pattern around the tree. Start with the larger ornaments first and work your way down to the smaller ornaments. Try using non-ornaments on the tree to add a hint of your personality and style.

Decorating A Room

Step 1: Declutter Inspiration and Colour Scheme

Less is always more. A minimalist approach is key to making your space appear more high end.

Step 2: Inspiration and Colour Scheme

Keep the same theme throughout the house. Source inspiration images of the look you wish to achieve and add your own spin to it. Choose a simple colour scheme with just two colours.

Step 3: Soft Textures

Add layers of bedding, fluffy pillows, and throws to create a cosy haven. White coloured furry throw pillows and throws resemble snow and create an even cosier atmosphere.

Step 4: Greenery

Bring in some greenery whether it is real or fake. Add a wreath, small or large trees, and a vase filled with flowers and Christmas tree branches.

Styling the Table

Step 1: Colour Palette

Decide on a colour palette that you love and use it throughout your entire home – living room, dining room and kitchen – for cohesion.

Step 2: Centrepiece

To add layers to your tablescape, you need a blank canvas. A white table cloth is like a canvas because it allows you to add any style of plates, chargers and colours.
Add the runner next, this allows you to start bringing in your colour scheme.
Create a centrepiece that will be the focal point of your tablescape. It can be either a vase with flowers and greenery or an assortment of Christmas balls in a bowl.

Step 3: Place Settings

This is where the real fun begins. Opt for a clean and simple look with white dishes and patterned salad plates, or mix and match. Add some fun napkins to compliment the colour scheme, top with a few stylish napkin rings and use trendy flatware like gold or rose gold. Once finished add stylish or simple wine glasses and you’re done!
